Summer Hair of the Palm Beaches – June 2013

in Press by

SUMMER in South Florida is known for its INTENSE HEAT, FIERCE HUMIDITY, and BLAZING SUN. While this may sound like a great day at the beach, it usually makes for a pretty bad hair day. Protect your hair from the damaging effects of the summer WITHOUT COMPROMISING YOUR DAYS IN THE SUN.

HATS AND SCARVES
Wearing hats and scarves not only protect your hair from exposure to the elements, but can also be a fun way to mix up your look. Cover your hair and uncover a new you.

EMBRACE YOUR NATURAL TEXTURE
Put your hot tools on summer vacation and see what your hair is capable of when left alone. A little product can reveal and define what your hair was meant to do naturally. Look for leave-in conditioners and curl- defining lotions or mousses. Apply and enjoy.

MOISTURE IS NOT A FOUR LETTER WORD
The more moisture you put into your hair, the less room there is for humidity. So act before humidity does! Humidity blows out your cuticle, giving the appearance of dull frizzy hair. Fill and seal your hair with a weekly deep conditioning treatment. You’ll learn to love moisture and not let humidity give it a bad name.

SATURATE AND RINSE
Don’t let your hair come between you and the pool. Rinse your hair with clean water prior to jumping in. This will protect your locks from absorbing the water’s unwanted elements, such as salt and chlorine. Just remember to rinse again immediately afterwards. Don’t be afraid; dive right in!

SHAMPOO SECRET
Limit shampooing your hair to 2-3 times a week. Manipulating your scalp with water and conditioner alone will remove most natural oils and dirt, and your hair will feel and smell like its been freshly cleaned. Consider this your little shampoo secret.

Ink, Art & Beauty – April 2013

in Press/Uncategorized by

Appearing on Spike TV’s “Ink Master” was only the tip of the iceberg of the successful career of painter, tattoo artist, and model Lea Vendetta.  The SoFlo ink slinger of Parisian origin has been fully emerged in the tattoo culture since the age of 18, when she decided that venturing into the tattoo scene and getting tatted was more important to her than the bourgeois modeling scene of those times.  When Lea first ventured into modeling, tattooed ladies—well, actually, the tattoo lifestyle—was taboo.  Oh, how the tables have turned.  Now as an in-demand model, full-time ink slinger—at Ink and Pistons Tattoo in West Palm Beach, FL—and a celebrated painter, Ms. Vendetta is living proof that the tattoo culture is seeing better days.

Hot & Happening

Hot & happening:

“There is a retro feel, going back to the ’20s and ’30s,” said Bridgette Hill, co-owner with partner Lauren Donald. “Waves and pin curls will never go out of style. But it’s very modern, more organic; global glamour, whatever you are we should be able to translate a glam look. Everything today is about straightening the hair. Everything is about being what you are not. We do not fight the hair texture you have. And we use accessories by weaving them into the hair. We call it ‘jeweling the crown’ and you can use anything — a pair of earrings, an old brooch. It makes the hair go wow.”

Haute hues:

“Warm wheat blondes and chestnut and teak brunettes offer a modern perspective on hair color.”

Delray Beach’s Bond Street Salon has a philosophy of using the hair’s natural texture to create style.

Say Holiday Hair Goes Retro for 2009/2010

The holiday season

Hair often reaches its crowning glory this time of year.

The holiday season brings with it a busier social calendar and the opportunity — nay, the hairdo duty — to try something a little dressier, a little thoughtful and a lot more glamourous.

So we canvassed some of South Florida’s most follicle-forward hairstylists for the hot trends hair will have this season. It turns out a lot of them are looking backward for inspiration, sampling from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ’40s and ‘60s.

Here is how some of the region’s trendiest primp palaces call it for the part-hearty holidays:
